ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The best way to learn about computer games design is by making games. This programme blends core programming skills with design, taught on industry–standard software in a modern studio environment, and lets students build a portfolio of professionally desirable game development work throughout their assessments.
YOUR LEARNING PATH
This module considers an introduction to the fundamentals of scripting in C#. Scripting is animportant tool in developing interactive and fun experiences for players. You will learn howto leverage the power of C# scripting to technically design and build interactive gameplay solutions.
There are a wide range of core programming concepts that a required to understand before you can create more complex games and applications. In this module we will introduce the techniques required to get started in the world of programming, this means topics such as: data types, conditionals, functions, and object–oriented programming will be taught which will culminate in the development of a text–based game.
Computer games systems need to solve computational problems very quickly, in order to deliver the best experience possible. In Computational Methods, students will learn the kinds of techniques, developed through computer science, that can help to solve computational problems in the most efficient ways possible. Students will also learn to appreciate just how long problems can take if the more efficient techniques are not employed.
This module will introduce you to the fundamentals of computer graphics in games and graphical programming techniques applied to games.
You will be taught from scratch how to design, develop and enhance your own early-stage game prototypes using prototyping techniques and scripting in an industry-standard game engine. This will include how to manage your time effectively.
This module develops further students’ understanding of game mechanic creation using a game engine. Students will learn how to plan, communicate and implement core game concepts, such as characters, enemies and game loops in order to create fun, playable prototypes of their own design.
DISTINCTIVE EXPERIENCE
Provides multiple opportunities to construct an industry-ready portfolio demonstrating in-demand game development skills, establishing a strong competitive advantage in a rapidly expanding sector.
The best way to learn about computer games design is by making games. Our programme allows you to develop innovative gaming projects for many of your assessments, which leads to rapid growth in your game development abilities.
You will work with like–minded people in a modern, well equipped studio environment that encourages support and collaboration.
You will finish the programme with an expert understanding of professional game development tools and be able to rapidly create game prototypes as well as fully polished gaming experiences.
You are encouraged to meet with your lecturers for personalised advice on your projects and future aspirations.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Understand how established games design techniques and programming physics used by others may be used for original production and show a systematic approach to the analysis of the games industry using these skills.
Set realistic goals for learning and become a confident independent learner who could impart their knowledge to others.
Understand of the methods and avenues of enquiry in the field of games design and technology and show a professional approach to research and information gathering.
Show the ability to analyse a problem through critical thinking and constructive argument backed by data and research. Analyse the effectiveness of techniques and technologies in terms of usefulness and the effectiveness of the way others use technology and techniques for specific production situations.
Identify the problem and use skills of decision making to choose the appropriate method to obtain the best solution and have the ability to discern between a complete and incomplete solution to a technological or theoretical problem.
Communicate interpersonally either in the form of written or oral expression in a professional manner to a variety of audiences in order to communicate ideas, problems or solutions.
Apply critical reasoning and argument to show the ability to apply concepts in different contexts and apply in a practical and flexible manner a workflow pipeline to produce parts or a complete computer games.
Demonstrate the ability to realistically reflect on the quality of their work and put in to place a plan of action to improve upon their work in the future.
CAREER PROSPECTS
Upon graduation, Computer Games Design and Programming students will have up to 18 months of internship experience and 2 published games.
With the amount of skills and experience from a course designed for success, graduates will find themselves thriving in a wide range of work environments:
Our graduates will also benefit from BUV’s extensive partnership network, which includes industry-leading game and tech organisations in Vietnam and in the region such as VNG, Gameloft, Garena, Koei, or Microsoft.
YOUR QUALIFICATION
The University of Staffordshire specializes in career–focused education co–designed with industry. Its programmes combine real–world skills, professional qualifications, and technology–led learning, with work experience offered to every student. Internationally recognized in computing, games, and esports, Staffordshire has been BUV's strategic awarding partner since 2009, offering its widest range of degree programmes.
All majors at BUV require completion of a foundation/pathway programme beforehand. The only exception is for students on certain international curricula who meet the partner university's required scores for exemption; such cases are assessed individually by the Academic Affairs team.
The university requires completion of high school (Grade 12), but does not set any minimum grade requirement.
Yes, but the change must be made before July of the intake year. Changes requested after this date incur a programme-change fee of VND 2,000,000, payable to the university.
BUV follows the UK education system, so a Vietnamese high school diploma is not mandatory. Applicants must instead demonstrate completion of the equivalent of Grade 12, which can be shown through any of the following BUV-accepted qualifications:
All special cases require approval from the university's Academic Affairs department and depend on the specific programme and degree-awarding partner, so your child can submit their existing qualifications for the Admissions team to advise on the most suitable pathway.
