ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
This dual-degree programme at BUV takes students from the foundations of drawing and visual research to character development, narrative design and animated storytelling. Working with traditional and digital techniques, students learn to communicate ideas through print, film and other visual formats.
YOUR LEARNING PATH
This module will equip students with a greater ability to communicate through writing, and speaking, as well as enhance their receptive skills with reading and listening. Overall, students will learn key foundational skills in academic English and develop a greater ability to use English in both formal and informal settings. The aim of this course is to build a strong foundation for students to extend towards more specialist, academic forms of English usage and comprehension.
This is a foundation module intended to provide students with a clear overview of principles of academic Integrity, forms of assessment, academic writing, presentations, structure, clarity, and methods of argumentation and coherent expression. The module will be delivered in 3–hour sessions comprising both traditional lecturing with group work, practical exercises, and in–class assessment and knowledge checks.
This is a foundation module intended to provide students with an introduction to a wide range of necessary study and personal skills, including ideation and creativity, effective study, stress and health management, teamwork and collaboration, personal branding, and career development.
The module aims to develop the student's ability to challenge preconceptions, analyse, reflect and review their progress within the context of art and design methods and to increase their personal independence by developing ideas that extend their skills through the practical investigation of materials, techniques, and processes associated with a specialist art and design study. Students will explore personal learning approaches that enable them to recognise and work confidently within the distinctive learning ethos and characteristics of a practice-based programme.
These Vietnamese modules: (1) are applicable to Vietnamese students only, (2) are taught and studied in Vietnamese by an outsourced provider, (3) are non–credit bearing modules in the final transcript, (4) of which successful completion is a condition of graduation.
Please note the list above is for reference and subject to change. Any change will be updated on time.
DISTINCTIVE EXPERIENCE
Rooted in drawing, the programme encourages students to develop an individual visual language. By combining illustration and animation, students explore creative approaches to a wide range of visual communication contexts.
Through research-led creative practice, students work across still and moving images using both traditional and digital processes. Their work may span illustration, animation, graphic narratives, character development and visual storytelling.
Students explore AI and other emerging technologies while working with modern tools used in illustration and animation. Connections with cultural organisations and creative businesses also provide insights into current industry practices and professional working environments.
Many Manchester Metropolitan graduates have progressed to postgraduate study at prestigious institutions such as the Royal College of Art, the National Film School, and Manchester Metropolitan University. Alumni have also gone on to careers as freelance illustrators, animators, filmmakers, designers, pre–production artists, storyboard artists, and educators.
