Nguyen Hong Hanh
BUV ALUMNI WITH THE PASSION OF "GO FAR TO COMEBACK" CONTRIBUTING TO VIETNAM’S TOURISM INDUSTRY – NGUYEN HONG HANH
After her Bachelor’s in Tourism Management at BUV, fuelled by the passion for travel to explore the world and inspired by her family, Hanh was driven to secure a scholarship for MSc in International Tourism Management and Marketing at the University of Nottingham in the UK.
BUV is proud to have been a companion on Hanh’s journey to realise her grand dream, boldly step out into the world and return to contribute to the development of Vietnam's tourism industry. In our joint efforts to introduce Vietnam as a destination worldwide, enthusiastic young individuals like Hong Hanh play a pivotal role in extending the reach of Vietnamese cultural values across the globe.
Staying committed despite setbacks
Born into a family that values education, with a burning passion for exploring the continents, Hong Hanh had a clear academic goal from an early age. Despite being a year behind schedule, this delay turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It led Hanh to work at KKday, where she gained practical knowledge through hands-on experiences and received tremendous support from dynamic colleagues, which helped her start small, laying the groundwork for future giant leaps.
Pursuing a Master's degree is a 'test' I set for myself to see if I am truly passionate about following an academic path.
With that spirit as the guiding light, Hanh dared to try, dared to pursue, and unwaveringly chased her goal and plan.
Navigating the challenges of postgraduate study
Carrying her experiences to the UK, Hanh managed to impress her professors at the University of Nottingham with her practical experiences: "Studying for a Master's after a year at KKday gave me an edge. My lecturers felt I was more 'mature' compared to my peers, as I could offer personal perspectives from my real-world experiences in Vietnam, as well as be enriched by deeper academic knowledge in my chosen field."
On her journey to conquer her postgraduate dreams and secure a prestigious Master’s scholarship, Hanh is proud of the support she has received from her professors, friends, and the BUV team. They've been instrumental in building a solid foundation of both knowledge and relationships, preparing her to face any challenge with confidence.
Looking ahead to a return to Vietnam
Hanh proudly states:
It's all about going abroad to return! I hope when I come back to Vietnam, I'll continue to have the chance to contribute my knowledge and experiences to the tourism industry here.
And in preparation for that return, she has tirelessly worked on improving herself, knowing well that "There is always a higher mountain to climb," and "Being abroad is such a humbling experience" – studying overseas is all about learning and humility.
Moreover, pursuing a Master's degree is a major decision that requires both mental and financial readiness. Hence, Hanh's advice to fellow BUVers is to start preparing early and to connect with an enthusiastic and impressive network of professors, friends, and partners at BUV to best prepare for their own international ambitions.
