Recently, students from International Hospitality Management programme at British University Vietnam (BUV) had the opportunity to attend a guest lecture by Mr. Benjamin M. Schwarz, General Manager of the five-star Pan Pacific Hanoi hotel and a seasoned professional in international hospitality management.
With more than two decades of experience working with leading global hotel brands such as InterContinental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn (under IHG), Mr. Schwarz has held senior management positions across Germany, Qatar, Oman, Thailand and Vietnam. He has also been involved in the operation and pre-opening of large-scale hotels and resorts, with experience spanning both premium and luxury segments.
During the session at BUV, he shared practical insights into how the hospitality industry operates today, the rising expectations for talent, and key trends shaping its future. Drawing on his international career journey, he emphasised the importance of adaptability, a flexible mindset and continuous learning in a global working environment.
In addition, Mr. Schwarz offered practical advice to help students better prepare for careers in the industry, from building core skills to defining long-term career pathways.
Notably, he also introduced internship opportunities at Pan Pacific Hanoi for this summer and expressed his intention to continue supporting BUV students through future industry engagement initiatives. This contributes to strengthening collaboration between the university and the industry, while providing students with more hands-on learning opportunities.
Following the session, students described it as both insightful and inspiring. They appreciated the opportunity to gain real-world perspectives from a senior industry leader, as well as to interact, ask questions and learn from his extensive international experience.
Through ongoing industry engagement activities, BUV continues to reinforce its commitment to practice-based learning, equipping students with the skills and confidence needed for global careers while they are still studying at the university.
