A REMARKABLE JOURNEY TO WIN OVER THE ADMISSIONS BOARD OF TOP UK UNIVERSITY – VU HAI NHI
Graduating with First Class Honours in Finance programme of BUV, alumna Vu Hai Nhi leveraged her stellar academic foundation as a launching pad to pursue her dream of building a career in the UK’s financial market.
Hai Nhi’s first milestone on her journey to achieving her dreams was an offer to join the Master’s programme at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) – the UK’s top-ranked university according to The Times, which is known for its highly selective admission progress (only one in four applicants gets accepted)*.
This is a testament to Hai Nhi’s resilience and dedication, as well as the reward of her academic journey at BUV – a place that nurtured her ambitions and shaped a strong foundation for her. Studying a programme with academic direction from LSE and awarded by BUV's long-standing partner, the University of London (one of 24 prestigious Russell Group universities in the UK), Hai Nhi earned solid recognition from a world-renowned academic institution, creating a powerful launchpad for her passion.
Unwavering with the call of her heart
When applying for a Master’s degree abroad, most students hedge their bets by submitting applications to multiple universities. But Hai Nhi took a bold step – she applied to just one: the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
Explaining her decision, Nhi proudly shared, “LSE felt like destiny.” After two years working in finance, she gained new insights into her strengths, passions, and areas for improvement. She understood better what the industry demands and discovered the career path she truly wanted to pursue.
What gave Nhi the confidence to take this focused approach? Her impressive academic record in BUV’s Finance program earned her an exemption from the GMAT/GRE requirement – essential tests for postgraduate applicants.
With perfect timing and a clear goal, Nhi saw LSE as her “signal from the universe” to follow this path. She believed it would equip her with the knowledge and skills she needed to excel in the financial sector.
For Hai Nhi, this wasn’t about taking risk, it was about staying true to herself and investing wholeheartedly in this worthwhile choice.
Strategically winning a spot at the UK’s top university with a unique essay
Hai Nhi distinguished herself from thousands of applicants to secure her place at LSE, thanks to two key strategies.
She shared, “Beyond grades and internships, the personal statement is one of the most crucial factors in convincing the Admissions Board.” That’s why Nhi poured her heart into crafting a compelling essay that truly stood out. Instead of listing her achievements, she took an innovative approach, considering the essay like a financial market risk analysis, highlighting how studying at LSE would help her make meaningful contributions to society.
Nhi also advised fellow BUV students to fully leverage the invaluable experiences and skills gained during their three years at university – especially in rigorous programmes like Finance. These foundations, she explained, can be a powerful launchpad for postgraduate applications and success at LSE.
The endless journey of gaining new knowledge
Earning a Master’s degree at LSE is not the final destination for Hai Nhi’s personal growth journey. Instead, she perceives it as the perfect stepping stone for her career. After completing her Master’s at LSE, she plans to work in the UK’s financial market. This talented Gen Z aims to gain deep insights into strategy, which she hopes to apply by advising Vietnamese companies on international mergers and providing strategic recommendations.
Youth is our most precious time, so I’m always striving to grow beyond my own limits,” Nhi shares. Inspired by the philosophy of “Carpe Diem”. Seize every opportunity to keep improving.
