Accreditation is a process of evaluating and recognising the quality of an institution, training programme, or service against standards set by a competent authority.
Purpose: to ensure that the institution or programme meets standards of quality, transparency, and effectiveness.
Who carries it out: independent accrediting bodies, or bodies recognised by governments or international organisations.
Example: in higher education, an “accredited” university is one whose training programmes meet approved standards for content, faculty, facilities, and graduate outcomes.
