UNLOCKING FAST-TRACK CAREER JOURNEY WITH BUV ALUMNI – LE VIET CUONG

Balancing his role as a sharp Financial Analyst at Vietnam Investors Service (VIS Rating) – where he evaluates and rates major corporations’ credit – with his vibrant life as an "alpha geek" passionate about board games and Tarot, Le Viet Cuong is a force to be reckoned with. He is one of the first three "legends" to graduate with a First-Class Honours degree from the University of London (UOL) programme at BUV.

Cuong’s professional trajectory through top-tier organisations like VPBank, BIM Group, and VIS Rating showcases a remarkable ability to adapt and excel in entirely new environments at an accelerated pace. The cornerstone of his success lies in the systemic thinking skills cultivated during his Banking and Finance degree awarded by the University of London.

"The UOL programme is notoriously rigorous. Once you conquer it, you feel like you can tackle anything," Cuong shares. It is this robust knowledge base and a methodical approach to independent research that give him the confidence to embrace any challenge, whether it’s deep-dive market analysis or stepping into entirely new domains.

Choosing challenge as a path to growth

While many shy away from academic rigour, for Le Viet Cuong, it was the ultimate draw. Driven by a deep-seated passion for finance and investment, he chose to tackle the Banking and Finance programme awarded by the University of London (UOL) at BUV.

The journey was far from easy. High-pressure exam seasons, a massive volume of knowledge, and complex questions that demanded thinking far beyond the textbook often pushed Cuong to his limits. However, he was never alone in this pursuit.

I chose the University of London’s Banking and Finance programme knowing it would not be an easy path. Yet it was these very challenges that helped me build resilience and become more committed to pursuing a career in finance.

On his path to earning a First-Class Honours degree, Cuong was constantly championed by the BUV community. Whether it was peers sharing study tips, lecturers patiently untangling complex theories, or the BUV Career Services team opening doors to his first internships in the financial sector, support was always within reach. Alongside this, his family remained a vital anchor, providing the unwavering trust and encouragement that fuelled his drive to persist and emerge as the resilient professional he is today.

Beyond the book: The art of self-mastery

If there is one thing UOL instilled in Cuong beyond technical expertise, it is the power of self-directed learning.

The "notoriously rigorous" exams forced Cuong to master time management and transform raw information into personal insight. Instead of passive learning, the programme cultivated an instinct for deep research and real-world application. Furthermore, UOL’s signature written exams sharpened his ability to present ideas logically, ensuring his arguments were not only technical but also persuasive and easy to follow.

The challenging programme equipped me not only with specialist knowledge but also with a strong intellectual foundation. Studying at BUV trained me to think systematically, perform effectively under pressure, and approach problems strategically. These skills have enabled me to adapt quickly to change and perform at my best in the workplace.

These skills paid dividends the moment he entered the workforce. At VPBank, despite being new to specialised banking software, his UOL-trained framework allowed him to adapt and master the tools in record time. At BIM Group, his research habits enabled him to build a solid foundation in a new sector, approaching capital mobilisation systematically from a corporate perspective.

From banking and multi-sector conglomerates to his current role at VIS Rating, Cuong’s journey proves one thing: once you have survived the "academic crucible" of UOL, you have the confidence to accelerate and thrive in any professional environment.

The curious analyst & A word to the next generation

Behind the sharp Financial Analyst is a man driven by curiosity and a desire to see just how far he can go. This same explorer’s spirit led him to an unexpected skill – Tarot. By self-studying the cards, Cuong finds a unique way to reflect on his professional path and proactively prepare for the future.

Reflecting on his vibrant years at BUV, Cuong most treasures the practical experiences, especially the internships facilitated by Career Services. For him, these weren’t just first jobs – they were invaluable opportunities to stress-test UOL’s rigorous theories in the real world. His only slight regret? He wishes he had been even more active in student clubs to soak up every bit of the bustling campus life.

Now, as a graduate who conquered the UOL programme with flying colours, Cuong offers a piece of heartfelt advice to current students: "UOL is incredibly tough, but don't just make 'survival' your goal."

To Cuong, the true value isn't just the degree in your hand; it’s using that challenging journey to discover your limits, build a rock-solid foundation, and open doors to the future. Once you are brave enough to navigate the "stormy weather" of UOL exam seasons, the "bright sunshine" of a brilliant career will surely follow.

The experiences gained along the way can help others approach their own choices with greater confidence. Share the lessons and milestones that have shaped your journey with us at alumnirelations@buv.edu.vn.
