BRITISH UNIVERSITY VIETNAM (BUV)

 POSITION PURPOSE 

The Research Associate (Bridging GenAI Divides) will play a crucial role in conducting research and managing the project focused on bridging the generative AI (GenAI) divide in Vietnamese higher education. This position is funded by the UK’s International Science Partnerships Fund (ISPF) and represents BUV’s commitment to research-intensive roles that address critical issues in the evolving landscape of AI in education. 

The post-holder will be responsible for the project management and coordination of the project, carry out research and analysis tasks, support in the development of a range of resources and tools to achieve the goals of the project in Vietnam, and support in the success of impact and dissemination events. Additionally, the role includes duties as a research assistant, such as drafting reports to funding bodies and supporting in the development of academic posters, conference papers, and journal papers. 

This role will involve coordinating closely between our UK partner university (Swansea University) and our Vietnam partner (National Academy of Education Management) to support the overall aims of the project. 

The successful candidate will have a passion for Generative AI Technologies and innovation in higher education, be a proactive self-starter, and thrive in a dynamic and challenging environment. They will work closely with the project team, partners, and stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the project and the achievement of its outcomes. 

POSITION TYPE: Full-time, 15-month fixed term contract.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY  

  • Collaborate with the project team to undertake project-related activities to include: 
  • Conduct comprehensive research activities for the project on bridging GenAI divides in Vietnamese higher education.  
  • Design and implement large-scale quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis methodologies.  
  • Develop and administer surveys and focus groups related to GenAI usage and perceptions in higher education.  
  • Manage all aspects of the research project, including timeline adherence, resource allocation, reporting, budgeting, and stakeholder engagement.  
  • Analyse and interpret research data, considering gender-specific issues and implications.  
  • Disseminate research findings through various channels, including academic publications, conferences, and public engagement activities. 
  • Prepare and publish regular journal articles throughout the project lifecycle.  
  • Collaborate with leading GenAI researchers in Vietnam, the UK, and around the globe to foster knowledge exchange and innovation.  
  • Support initiatives aimed at reducing inequalities in GenAI access and utilisation within Vietnamese higher education.  

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS 

COMPETENCIES (knowledge, skills, and abilities) 

Essential  

  • PhD qualification from an international university  
  • Proven experience in large-scale quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis  
  • Expertise in survey design and implementation  
  • Strong research management skills  
  • Experience in research dissemination, including academic publishing  
  • Proficiency in working with GenAI systems  
  • Experience working within or studying the Vietnamese higher education system  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Vietnamese  
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills  
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 

 Desirable   

  • Previous experience in funded research projects  
  • Knowledge of ethical considerations in AI research  
  • Experience in organizing academic conferences or workshops 
  • Demonstrated ability to consider gender issues in research design and analysis
