BRITISH UNIVERSITY VIETNAM (BUV)
British University Vietnam (BUV) is the first and only international university in Vietnam to directly award British degrees from the prestigious University of London and Staffordshire University. BUV is rated a 5 Star university of excellence by the world recognised QS accreditor and is also recognised with a University-wide accreditation from the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).

POSITION PURPOSE
The Head of Accounting is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of the accounting function within the university, ensuring financial integrity, compliance, and alignment with organizational goals. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role plays a key part in shaping the university’s financial strategy and operational effectiveness.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Accounting and Reporting:
- Provide strategic oversight of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and taxation processes, ensuring alignment with financial regulations and university goals.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with local accounting standards and Group requirement.
- Prepare and file tax returns and other regulatory filings.
- Prepare monthly reporting in accordance with Vietnamese Accounting Standards and Group reporting framework.
- Conduct regular audits and reviews to maintain financial integrity.
- Accounting Systems:
- Ensure the continuous improvement and strategic alignment of financial software systems, ensuring efficiency and system security across all accounting operations.
- Ensure system security and data integrity.
- Timely improve financial system to reduce manual work and increase efficiency.
- Monitor system performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Tax reporting and planning:
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and oversee the strategic tax planning for the university.
- Timely update tax regulation and identify all tax risks and solutions.
- Work with local tax authorities.
- Risk Management:
- Develop and implement financial risk management strategies to align with the university’s strategic goals and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Develop policies and procedures to strengthen financial system and mitigate risks of incompliance.
- Monitor compliance with internal controls, Group internal control requirement and external regulations.
- Work and follow with Group Auditor.
- Team Leadership:
- Provide leadership and mentorship to the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and ensuring the professional development of team members.
- Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to team members.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Strategic Partnerships:
- Collaborate with other departments to support the university’s strategic goals.
- Build strong relationships with external stakeholders, such as auditors, bankers, tax authority and government agencies.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
COMPETENCIES (knowledge, skills, and abilities)
Essential
- At least Bachelor degree or above majoring in Accounting/Finance/Auditing.
- Having accounting certificates, tax procedure service certificates or ACCA, CPA is an advantage.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the same position. Having worked in the position of Chief Accountant, Head of Finance and Accounting Department in the related industry is an advantage.
- Ability to organize, manage and develop people.
- Good communication skills, problem solving skills and analytical skills.
- Good command of English.
- Proficiency in Accounting Software (preferred FAST and SAP), EXCEL, WORD, POWERPOINT.
