With an outstanding performance, the students not only showcased their solid knowledge but also demonstrated their analytical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to flexibly apply theories to real-world situations.

On November 1st, the MIGHTY LIONS team from BUV proudly won “Innovative Board of Directors” prize at the Vietnam ESG Challenge 2024, co-hosted by the State Securities Commission (SSC) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).

The MIGHTY LIONS team representing BUV excelled in winning the “Innovative Board of Directors” award in the finals

Representing BUV, the MIGHTY LIONS team consists of members Bùi Thị Thanh Phương, Nguyễn Thị Yến Nhi, Lê Ngọc Xuân Mai, Lê Hồng Anh, and Nguyễn Trung Dũng from School of Business.

The Vietnam ESG Challenge, first launched in 2023, created a platform for young individuals to explore and enhance their skills, enabling them to confidently demonstrate their understanding of ESG and corporate governance for sustainable development. Building on its remarkable success, the Vietnam ESG Challenge 2024 is being held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, consisting of three rounds: “Seeding,” “Growth,” and “Sustainability.”

Throughout the competition rounds, teams continuously enhanced their knowledge and skills through practical experiences, training sessions, and company visits. Additionally, the competition provided an opportunity for participants to gain valuable insights through discussions, Q&A sessions, and knowledge exchanges on ESG with experts and top executives from leading domestic and international enterprises.

Armed with solid knowledge and relentless effort, MIGHTY LIONS excelled in the competition rounds to become one of the top 18 teams nationwide. In the final round, the team demonstrated an in-depth understanding of ESG and corporate governance through the challenges of “Case Handling and Debate” and “Role-Playing in Real-Life Scenarios.” In particular, during the “Role-Playing” segment, the team transformed into a corporate board of directors, collaboratively analyzing issues, proposing creative solutions, and delivering persuasive presentations. The judges were highly impressed by the team’s sharp thinking, leadership skills, and passionate spirit. Despite having only five members, the BUV team showcased remarkable confidence and determination, successfully completing their tasks and overcoming challenges, including the surprise involvement of two secret judges.

Team leader Bùi Thị Thanh Phương shared her thoughts after the competition: “The Vietnam ESG Challenge 2024 truly provided me with an unforgettable experience. I not only had the opportunity to participate in intensive training sessions under the guidance of leading experts but also gained valuable insights into the importance of ESG in today’s world. Particularly, competing alongside the MIGHTY LIONS team and winning the award for the ‘Innovative Board of Directors’ category was a great honor. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to take part in this competition and am eagerly looking forward to new challenges ahead.”

The Vietnam ESG Challenge 2024 not only equips participants with specialized knowledge in ESG and corporate governance but also inspires sustainable development across society.

The competition provides numerous opportunities for young individuals to showcase their leadership talents, enhance their awareness, and fully realize their potential, contributing to building a green and sustainable future for Vietnam.

“It was their first time competing and exploring the concepts of ESG at a national competition level, leading to countless meetings, debates, and moments of confusion. Yet, they pushed themselves to improve. Seeing them support each other and celebrate their victory together was truly heartwarming,” shared Ms. Bao Ngo, Senior Officer of Student Engagement at BUV, who supported the students to victory.
