During the International Conference on Green Sustainable Technology and Management 2024, among more than 100 presentations by researchers regionwide, 2 stood out as the only students from Vietnam to present their research proposals to such an esteemed audience. Nguyen Khanh Nguyen and Nguyen Xuan Thuy, 2 students from British University Vietnam, delivered compelling online presentations to researchers all over Southeast Asia, both displaying huge potential in using technology to sustainably develop their sector of interest.
Earlier in June 2024, the International Conference on Green Sustainable Technology and Management 2024 (ICGSTM 2024) was held at INTI International University in Malaysia, co-organised by British University Vietnam (BUV). With the theme of “Advancing Sustainable Development Goals for a Resilient Future”, this year, the conference aims to build on the success of the previous edition by fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange in areas ranging from engineering and information technology to health, education, business, and management, all aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Nguyen Khanh Nguyen (3rd year Marketing Management student) and Nguyen Xuan Thuy (3rd year International Business Management student) represented the student body of BUV to present their research proposals to over 1000 guests at the Conference.
Bringing hopes to hometown with technology
As AI grows to be one of the biggest trends in technology, students are encouraged to explore its vast number of applications and adopt it into their own disciplines.
Nguyen Khanh Nguyen’s proposal, “Exploring Generative AI in Promoting Community-based Tourism Models in Central Vietnam”, came from her passion for sustainable tourism and fascination with AI. Growing up in Quang Binh, a rural area in Central Vietnam, she saw the opportunity to leverage generative AI to create innovative promotional strategies that could help the province gain more visibility and attract more visitors. “The idea of combining cutting-edge technology with community empowerment to foster sustainable tourism growth is incredibly motivating,” she shared, excited about the project.
Presenting in front of international researchers and scholars is not a small feat for an undergraduate student. Nguyen is incredibly proud of her work and grateful for the feedback she received at the Conference, “This experience reinforced the importance and potential impact of my research, and it encouraged me to further refine and develop my ideas.”
Bringing business savviness into academic research
As a part of his own internship assignment, student Nguyen Xuan Thuy came up with the proposal of “The Factor Influence the Use of Eco One App Among EcoPark Residents, Hanoi”. Applying his understanding of the app and his interest in business development and digital marketing, Xuan Thuy hopes to provide valuable insights to the company’s marketing department on how to enhance the app’s brand awareness with the goal of improving the digital marketing strategies’ effectiveness.
Though nervous, Thuy delivered his presentation well and felt relief as the Conference unveiled, “I felt immense relief and pride upon completing my very first academic project on such a grand scale.” Thuy expressed hopes to contribute to future employers and enterprises with his research skills and knowledge gained from this experience.
The unwavering support for the future of education in Vietnam
Talking about the process of writing the proposal, both students showed gratitude to the faculty members of BUV. To complete such a project as undergraduate students, the support from faculty is not only helpful but can also be enlightening and encouraging. The feedback and mentorship from published authors and experienced researchers can be a steppingstone for the students to reach further and do better on their academic journey.
Research activities help students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills – essential for both academic and career success. As these students continue to share their talents with the world, BUV commits to being a nurturing environment for students, whether they choose to be academics or practitioners.
