HANOI, JUNE 28, 2019 – British University Vietnam has become the first organisation in Vietnam to make the Cambridge professional development qualifications widely available to all teachers in Vietnam.
Under the partnership between Cambridge Assessment International Education and BUV, Vietnamese teachers now can pursue professional qualifications including a Certificate in Educational Leadership, Certificate in Teaching and Learning and Certificate in Teaching with Digital Technologies, which open up a range of opportunities in international teaching.
“In Vietnam we see a growing demand for international education from parents who wish to have a bright future for their children, but there are not enough teachers to meet all the demand. This opens up really good opportunities for Vietnamese teachers who are seeking rewarding and satisfying careers in international teaching,” said Ben Schmidt, Regional Director South East Asia & Pacific for Cambridge Assessment International Education.
Under the partnership between Cambridge Assessment International Education and BUV, Vietnamese teachers now can pursue professional qualifications, which open up a range of opportunities in international teaching.
“In order to do that, they need not only subject knowledge but they also need to be fluent in English and have a good command of pedagogical methods of active learning that are necessary for international teaching programmes. The Cambridge professional development qualifications that British University Vietnam will be offering will enable teachers to acquire these pedagogical skills and therefore, set them up for successful careers in international teaching,” he added.
Speaking at the signing ceremony between Cambridge Assessment International Education and BUV on June 28th, Prof Ray Gordon, General Director of BUV said: “British University Vietnam is committed to bringing the best international standards of education not just to our students but also to learners and education practitioners across the country and region. The launch of these professional development qualifications in collaboration with Cambridge International Examinations is another milestone of BUV’s commitment to contributing to Vietnam’s development.”
The professional development qualification courses will be conducted by BUV’s International Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching.
The signing ceremony between Cambridge Assessment International Education and BUV took place on June 28th.
Being launched last year, the centre holds the aim of providing contemporary and innovative teacher training and continuous professional development programmes of the highest quality to educators, educational institutions and other stakeholders in the education space operating within Vietnam and in the region.
“British University Vietnam has demonstrated its commitment to improving the quality of teachers in Vietnam and recently established the International Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, they also have been instrumental in establishing the Cambridge A Level teaching programmes in two of the most prestigious state schools in Hanoi. We are happy to be part of that,” Schmidt said.
Dr Brian Chanen, Associate Director of ICELT said “The programme in teaching and learning will give new and experienced teachers a chance to reflect on how students learn best. The programme is designed to let teachers build on the skills they already have, engage with new methods, and practice in the classroom with guidance. It is a great model of continuous, supported growth.”
Joshua James, Head of Cambridge A Levels and Corporate Delivery, BUV said the professional development qualification courses have been “specially selected and designed to be relevant and impactful for teachers operating in today’s dynamic environment.”
“Upon completion of any of these practical part-time courses, participants will receive internationally recognised certificates awarded by the prestigious Cambridge Assessment International Education,” he said.
In the 9 months since its inception, ICELT has graduated more than 500 teachers, administrators and leaders from training programmes.
With leading experts and leaders in educational research and teaching philosophy, the centre will provide guidance and advice based on the practices, playing an important role in enhancing and developing the capability of educational managers, and contributing to equipping students with a lifelong learning spirit for Industry 4.0 and beyond.
BUV has actively worked in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and Training to facilitate the development of the education sector at all levels and support Vietnam’s ambition to take full advantage of the IR4.0.
