BUV recently participated in a knowledge exchange session with the University of Stirling, Scotland, focusing on the integration of AI in teaching, assessment, and research. Dr. Mike Perkins, Head of the Centre for Research and Innovation (CRI) at BUV, led the session, discussing BUV’s work on the AI Assessment Scale, a framework designed to help academics deal with the challenges posed by the increasing use of Generative AI (GenAI) tools in education.
The collaboration between BUV’s CRI and International Office, along with the Partnerships team from University of Stirling, aimed to share the best practices from BUV with staff from the University of Stirling and its other partner institutions. The session, which took place in April 2024, was well-received by attendees, who engaged in a lively Q&A session and exchanged ideas on how to effectively integrate AI into their teaching and assessment strategies.
The AI Assessment Scale, co-designed by a team of international researchers provides a structured approach for educators to determine the appropriate level of AI usage in student assessments while maintaining academic integrity and encouraging innovation. The framework has garnered significant interest from academics worldwide as they grapple with the rapidly evolving educational landscape shaped by AI technologies, and has shown real benefits within BUV, with increased student outcomes and engagement with these technologies by both faculty and students.
Ms. Hien (Jenny) Nguyen, the Head of the International Office at BUV said: “We are delighted to have collaborated with University of Stirling on this important topic. The knowledge exchange session led by Dr. Perkins showcases BUV’s commitment to educational innovation and sharing our expertise with international partners. We look forward to further collaborations with all partners on this important topic.”
This knowledge exchange session shows the importance of international collaborations in addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by AI in education, while also highlights BUV’s proactive approach to addressing the challenges posed by AI in education. By developing innovative solutions like the AI Assessment Scale and sharing them with their international partners, BUV demonstrates that partnerships are a two-way process, with both institutions contributing valuable insights and expertise.
As the use of AI tools continues to grow, frameworks like the AI Assessment Scale will play a crucial role in helping educators adapt to the changing landscape, and ensure the best outcomes for their students.
