In November 2024, British University Vietnam and Manchester Metropolitan University officially established a partnership, opening exciting opportunities for academic exchange, research collaboration, and student mobility between the two universities.
Representing Manchester Metropolitan University (Manchester Met) at the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony were Prof. Jenny Watling, Pro Vice Chancellor International, and Mr. Ian Jones, Head of International Partnerships. From British University Vietnam (BUV), the partnership was championed by Prof. Rick Bennett, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President, and Associate Prof. Jason MacVaugh, Dean of Higher Education.
The collaboration established a pathway for both BUV and Manchester Met students to engage in exchange and cross-cultural learning. The MOU enabled BUV students to gain exposure to Manchester Met’s academic rigor and cultural environment and provide the chance to engage in cultural exchange with international peers right on their campus, promoting Vietnamese culture to friends from around the world. As part of this partnership, Manchester Met plan to send a first cohort of 20 students next summer to participate in BUV’s Cultural Immersion Programme, allowing them to gain in-depth insights into Vietnam and foster connections with BUV students through joint activities, offering Manchester Met students a unique opportunity to experience Vietnam’s vibrant heritage, local industries, and educational culture.
Prior to the official MOU signing, a delegation from Manchester Met, including members of the international team and faculty, visited BUV in October 2024. This visit aimed to finalize preparations for the following MOU ceremony and allowed Manchester Met representatives to experience BUV’s unique cultural immersion and student engagement opportunities firsthand. Through a pilot tour of BUV’s mobility programmes, the delegation gained insights into the enriching cultural and academic exchanges that will soon be available to students from both institutions.
Mr. Ian Jones, Head of International Partnerships of Manchester Met shared his vision for this partnership: “We look forward to exploring opportunities for collaboration between our students and faculty. It was really interesting to see BUV’s impressive and rapidly expanding campus, which is set in beautiful surroundings”.
