Lifelong learning is not only a core value in education but also a key to enhancing leadership skills, innovating teaching methods, and driving the sustainable development of national education.
An Education Strategy for the Globalisation Era
In recent years, Vietnam’s education sector has undergone significant transformations, particularly emphasising fostering lifelong learning. More than just a trend, lifelong learning has become a crucial approach to building a sustainable education system and enhancing workforce quality. This aligns with the growing demands for talent in the age of globalisation and digital transformation.
Recognising the importance of lifelong learning, the Government has launched the “Nationwide Initiative to Build a Learning Society and Promote Lifelong Learning for the 2023-2030 Period.” A learning society is being cultivated through flexible learning methods, ranging from formal education to online platforms, with programs tailored to diverse needs and circumstances. Learners are encouraged to participate regardless of their age, status, or life situation.
Lifelong Learning with Practical Impact
In this context, British University Vietnam (BUV) has been a pioneer in championing lifelong learning and the philosophy of Purpose-Based Impact Learning (PBIL) since its inception. This approach goes beyond imparting knowledge, emphasising the development of practical skills that prepare learners to tackle challenges in both work and life.
The PBIL philosophy encourages students and learners to extend their education beyond the classroom, actively practicing and applying knowledge in real-world contexts. Through this, learners are equipped with essential skills to thrive in the global workforce and contribute positively to society.
At BUV, the spirit of lifelong learning extends beyond students, reaching individuals across society through a wide range of training programs and professional development courses. These include training for secondary and high school students, advanced courses for teachers at all levels, as well as specialized programs for business and government leaders…
Most recently, as part of the collaboration between BUV and the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, a professional development program for over 1,000 education leaders was conducted. This initiative underscores BUV’s commitment to supporting career development and enhancing leadership capacity in the education sector, contributing to the advancement of an innovative, creative, and sustainable education system in Vietnam.
Towards Sustainable Educational Development
The training program for education leaders in Hanoi, spanning from preschool to high school levels, aims to enhance management capabilities and leadership skills in the context of modern education. At the opening ceremony, Dr. Trần Thế Cương, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, emphasised the program’s significance. He expressed his hope that participants would effectively absorb and apply modern teaching knowledge and methodologies shared by domestic and international experts, thereby contributing to the educational reform of the capital city.
The training program is structured around four key focus areas, offering practical and highly applicable content.
Participants will be trained in “Human Resource Management Towards Autonomy and Creativity”, aimed at fostering a flexible and creative working environment. This module integrates research and the application of advanced global educational models, such as Montessori and High Tech High, tailored to the context and conditions of Vietnamese schools.
The “Teaching Leadership Models and Practical Application, International Experience” module enables participants to explore decentralized and transformative leadership methods inspired by renowned schools worldwide, including Vantaa Elementary School in Finland and Poughkeepsie Day School in the United States.
“Developing School Management Skills in the Digital Transformation Era” equips participants with knowledge of emerging technologies in management and teaching, covering online learning platforms and data management tools.
The “Application of Technology in Teaching, Assessment, and Grading of Students” module trains participants to proficiently use modern technological tools for designing lesson plans and assessing student competencies, thereby enhancing teaching quality and learning outcome evaluation.
Dr. Nguyễn Thị Thu Hằng, Chairwoman of the Council at the National Academy of Education Management, emphasised that the goal of the training series is to develop a highly skilled workforce in the education sector, driving digital transformation and international integration in education.
Mr. James McMillan, representing the group of lecturers and training experts from BUV, highlighted the significance of the program in enhancing school governance capabilities, particularly in the era of digital transformation. “With the involvement of international experts and modern teaching methods, the program not only provides theoretical knowledge but also focuses on practical applications, equipping Hanoi’s education leaders with the skills to lead and solve problems in a dynamic economic and educational environment,” he remarked.
The training program demonstrates a shared commitment to building an advanced and sustainable education system, contributing to the goal of improving education quality and developing a high-caliber workforce for the future. This initiative is part of the annual activities that BUV has co-organized with government agencies over the years, reinforcing the spirit of lifelong learning and continuous efforts to establish a robust education system capable of meeting the demands and challenges of a new era.
