BUV contributes nearly 500 highly qualified professional to the global labour market 17:23:26

British University Vietnam (BUV) hosted its second graduation ceremony of the 2024 academic year from 19th to 21st October, honouring nearly 500 new bachelor’s and master’s degree graduates across 14 academic programmes. This event not only celebrates the impressive academic achievements of the students but also underscores BUV’s strong commitment to cultivating and supplying highly qualified professionals, ready to meet the demands of the global labour market.

The ceremony was held in a solemn atmosphere, adhering to the British and Vietnamese standards

Remarkable growth in student quality

During the three-day graduation ceremony, British Vietnam University (BUV) formally honoured nearly 500 new bachelor’s and master’s graduates across 14 programmes. These programmes include Finance, awarded by the University of London (UoL); Business Administration, International Business Administration, Marketing Management, Accounting and Finance, Finance and Economics, Computer Games Design and Programming, Contemporary Creative Practice, Computer Science (specialising in Cyber Security and Cloud Technologies), Event Management, and Tourism Management, all awarded by the University of Staffordshire; as well as International Hospitality Management, Accounting and Finance, awarded directly by BUV.

Earlier in April, BUV held its first graduation ceremony of the academic year, honouring nearly 100 new bachelor’s and master’s graduates. Consequently, the second graduation ceremony of the 2024 academic year has brought the total number of graduates for the year to nearly 600. Notably, the quality of BUV graduates demonstrates remarkable growth, with nearly 25% achieving the “First Class” honours designation. This accomplishment is underpinned by the rigorous assessment and periodic supervision from BUV’s British degree-awarding partners. The “First Class” honour is the highest accolade for a Bachelor’s degree within the British higher education system. To attain this distinction, students must maintain an average mark of no less than an A (70/100) across all subjects, showcasing exceptional proficiency in both knowledge and skills throughout their studies.

According to statistics from the past ten years, spanning 2013 to 2023, provided by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) in the UK, an average of approximately 27% of students graduate with First Class honours each year. The consistent rate of outstanding students at BUV demonstrates that the quality of education and comprehensive development at BUV is on par with local institutions, equivalent to studying directly in the UK.

Success across multiple milestones

A significant number of graduates from the 2024 academic year have participated in international study exchange programmes across two to three countries, facilitated by BUV’s network of 50 partner universities spanning five continents. These programmes provide students with invaluable international experiences and foster the development of essential skills required to become global citizens.

Nearly 20% of BUV students have been awarded prestigious scholarships for postgraduate studies at renowned universities worldwide, including the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), the University of Sydney, Monash University, the University of Auckland, the University of Exeter, and the University of Liverpool, among others in the UK, USA, and Australia, etc.

In addition to their academic achievements, approximately 34% of students have secured positions with major national and international corporations prior to graduation. These include multinational audit firms such as EY, PwC, and KPMG; retail corporations like Nestlé, P&G, and Masan; international hotel groups Intercontinental and Accor; technology companies VNG, FPT, Momo, and VCCorp; the large conglomerate Vingroup, Samsung, and HSBC, among others. Furthermore, a significant number of BUV graduates have successfully launched their own businesses in sectors such as food and beverage (F&B) and healthcare.

The ceremony also welcomed the return of distinguished BUV alumni, including Vũ Thị Diệu Linh – CEO of Maple Leaves; Vũ Bá Huy Hoàng – Branch Director and Head of International Expansion at EV Search; Lương Thị Diệu Linh – Global Marketing Director at Vinfast; and Đoàn Văn Tuấn – former Investment Director at Nexttech Group. Their presence served to congratulate and inspire the new graduates.

A solid foundation for the future

Iain Frew, British Ambassador to Vietnam, extended his best wishes to the new BUV bachelor’s and master’s graduates, stating: “Over the past ten years, British Vietnam University has provided high-quality British programmes and degrees to Vietnamese students. I hope that after studying at BUV, you will always feel part of the vast British alumni community in Vietnam.”

Professor Michael Driscoll, Chancellor and Chair of the Board of BUV, emphasised: “In an ever-changing world, BUV will equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to overcome future challenges, valuing lifelong learning, flexibility, and the ability to seize opportunities for development and innovation.”

In a heartfelt congratulatory message to the new cohort, Professor Raymond Gordon, Vice-Chancellor and President of BUV, remarked that today’s graduates will enter the workforce with a distinct advantage—the British degree and the international learning environment experience from BUV.

“The value of a BUV degree is assured by three key aspects. Firstly, proficiency in the English language. Secondly, a degree from a university-accredited British quality assurance, along with international and cross-cultural skills. Finally, resilient hearts and minds,” Professor Gordon shared.

Representing BUV’s network of partners, Professor Martin Jones, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Staffordshire University, affirmed that the new graduates will join the global alumni community of University of Staffordshire University and British Vietnam University, individuals who are shaping the future and contributing to changing the world. He emphasised: “With the knowledge and skills acquired in an internationally standardised educational environment, BUV graduates can help build a high-quality talent pool for Vietnam.”
