BUV launches Academic Research Clusters, further advancing interdisciplinary research through collaboration

On July 17, 2024, British University Vietnam marked a significant milestone with the launch of its Academic Research Clusters during the SU x BUV Faculty Research Symposium.
This event gathered esteemed scholars and researchers from British University Vietnam (BUV) and Staffordshire University (SU), alongside notable guests such as Mr. Harry Rawicz-Szczerbo, Head of Trade and Investment at the UK Embassy, and Professor Rick Bennett, BUV Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President.

The establishment of the Academic Research Clusters (ARCs) represents a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing interdisciplinary research. These clusters bring together researchers across five key disciplines: Generative AI (GenAI-ARC), Events, Tourism, Hospitality and Sustainability (ETHOS-ARC), Culture, Communication & Creative Industries (CCCI-ARC), Computing, Games and Data Science (CGDS-ARC), and Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL-ARC). Each cluster is designed to support the development of pivotal research areas that align with BUV’s core values, fostering collaboration not only within BUV but also with various universities and institutions, addressing pressing issues in Vietnam and the wider region.

The ARCs’ significance lies in their potential to position BUV as a thought leader in these fields. Through organizing conferences, workshops, and lectures, BUV aims to increase its impact on society via intensive research projects. This initiative reflects the university’s commitment to addressing real-world challenges and contributing to the nation’s growth and development.
Mr. Harry Rawicz-Szczerbo emphasised the importance of education in the strategic partnership between the UK and Vietnam, stating, “Education has always been one of the key pillars to the strategic partnership between UK and Vietnam, and BUV is such an exciting institute in terms of research and transnational education partnerships. It’s great to see so many research collaborations already emerging between UK and Vietnamese universities and we want to see that continue to thrive and grow over time.”
Mr. Harry Rawicz-Szczerbo emphasises the significance of such initiatives to the UK – Vietnam diplomatic relationship.
Professor Rick Bennett highlighted the practical implications of this interdisciplinary approach, saying, “By launching the ARCs, BUV commits to continuous and intensive research, not only for academia’s sake but also to align with the Vietnam’s demands and visions, so it’s important to have an interdisciplinary approach to advance our understanding of pressing issues within the region.”
