In May, British University Vietnam had the honour of hosting representatives of Chung-Ang University from South Korea, ranked among the top 5 universities in Korea for research funding in 2024. The visit marked a significant step towards fostering collaboration to support the burgeoning gaming industry in Vietnam.

Recognizing a shared focus on fostering innovation and nurturing talents for the gaming industry, British University Vietnam (BUV) recently hosted a fruitful meeting with representatives from Chung-Ang University, a leading Korean institution renowned for its research in AI and game development, and Next Challenge, a global accelerator foundation driving the future of startups. This collaboration, fueled by Chung-Ang’s cutting-edge research advantages and Next Challenge’s expertise in nurturing innovation, presents exciting possibilities for shaping the future of game development education in Vietnam. With BUV’s commitment to excellence education and Chung-Ang University & Next Challenge’s expertise, this collaboration has the potential to propel Vietnam’s game industry to new heights. 

A Shared Vision for the Future of Gaming 

Professor Jong Hyun Wi from Chung-Ang University and Ms. Mi Moon – Director of ASEAN Labs, Next Challenge Foundation engaged in discussions with BUV’s Leadership team and academic leads from the School of Computing and Innovative Technologies.  

As the first university in Vietnam to offer formal education in game development, BUV, in collaboration with Chung-Ang University and the Next Challenge, aims to create significant impacts in the game development field. During the visit, the delegation shared their vision and plans to empower Vietnam’s next generation of professionals in the field of game development, not only through potential training opportunities but also skill development initiatives. Delegates discussed the act of establishing a new collaboration that provides promising opportunities for students in both Vietnam and South Korea, fostering academic exchange, collaboration and career growth in the global gaming industry. 

This collaborative effort aligns perfectly with BUV’s ambitious goal of becoming a leading hub for game education in Vietnam 

Accelerating Gaming Development Education in Vietnam  

The visit of Professor Jong and Ms. Moon to BUV is a testament to the growing importance of international collaboration in the gaming industry. With support from Chung-Ang University and the Next Challenge, BUV expects to become a leading regional hub for game development education and paves the way for the development of the gaming industry in Vietnam. By tapping into the expertise of partners from South Korea, BUV can bolster its curriculum, expand its research initiatives, and enhance its practical training programs. Moreover, the initiative between BUV and South Korean’s experts in gaming industry showing the commitment of both institutions to create a robust platform for nurturing future gaming talents.

BUV is the first university in Vietnam to offer formal education in game development programmes – awarded by the long-term partner Staffordshire University. If the potential collaboration with partners from Korea comes to realization, it will help further enrich the educational experience with diverse cultural perspectives for students from all three countries, drawing on South Korea’s developed gaming culture, which boasts a market value of 22.2 trillion won (16 million USD) as well as the advantage of Staffordshire University – the world-leading of the British Game creation sector.
