Our Faculty

Professor Dr. Raymond Gordon is an experienced academic leader, teacher and researcher holding positions at universities throughout the world including the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), the University of Sydney, University of Warwick (UK), Reitaku University Japan, New Mexico State University (USA), Copenhagen Business School Denmark and others.

He has an esteemed research and publication record with more than 70 publications in peer reviewed journals in the fields of leadership, power relations, organization theory and ethnographic studies. His work has been published by leading (Tier 1) international academic and journals such as the Leadership Quarterly, Organisation Studies, and the journal of Public Administration to name a few. Prior to becoming an academic Professor Gordon was an experienced corporate leader spending 25 years in the Computer Engineering and Information Technology industries in the UK, Australia, and US.

Mark Spence completed his PhD degree in Marketing at the University of Arizona, USA, in 1993. Prior to entering the doctoral program, he was Program Manager at Gnostic Concepts, Inc., a market research firm in the Silicon Valley, California, specializing in high technology products.  In 2002 Dr. Spence joined Bond University, Australia.  He held various roles at Bond University including Head of Department, Head of the Doctoral Program, and Associate Dean of Research. He now holds the position of Honorary Adjunct Professor of Marketing at Bond University as well as Visiting Lecturer at BUV.

Dr. Spence has published in top academic journals including the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Retailing, International Journal of Research in Marketing, European Journal of Marketing, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and Psychology & Marketing.

Born in the United States but raised and educated in the Cayman Islands and the United Kingdom, Jason completed a BSc in Business Management from N.C. State University. Following graduation in 2000 he was employed in both in the UK and the USA banking sectors. In 2002, he completed an MSc in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations from Brunel, and subsequently in 2003, won a studentship for a PhD in Knowledge Management. In 2007, Jason took a position at the University of Gloucestershire where he completed his PhD thesis in 2009. Jason’s career includes teaching and research activities across international locations including: Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, the USA, Italy and Tunisia.

Jason is a keen Teaching and Learning champion; winning a HEA National Teaching Fellowship in 2011, multiple faculty teaching and learning excellence awards, and publishing Pedagogic research alongside his disciplinary work in Innovation and Human Resource Management.

Mike carried out his university studies at the University of York, UK, where he completed his undergraduate degree in Management. Following the completion of a project with the North Yorkshire Police on enhancing service level delivery, he carried out his PhD in Operations Management at the University of York, which was partially funded by the North Yorkshire Police. His thesis was focused on exploring public perceptions of policing in the UK and how these could be improved.

After completing his PhD, Mike moved to Vietnam in 2013, where he began working for BUV. He is currently the Head of Quality and Academic Development and a Senior Lecturer, teaching mainly in the School of Business.

Dr. Anchit Bijalwan is an academician, researcher, consultant and mentor with 15 years of teaching experience for graduate, postgraduate students, and Ph.D. He successfully completed many projects from the UN, DST and AMIT.

Dr. Anchit has authored two books and published more than forty research papers in reputed international journals and conferences.  He is also working on various international research and community service projects. His specialization is in Privacy & Security. His interest areas include network forensics, botnet forensics, Industry 4.0, Internet of Things, and machine learning.

He has chaired the technical sessions for IEEE international conferences as well as Springer conferences and he is also a committee member for umpteen conferences. He was a keynote speaker of the IEEE conference which was held in El Salvador, Central America. His research interests include IoT, network security & privacy, Botnet forensics. He is a reviewer of Inderscience, IGI Global and many other publishers.

Dr. Kimber is an experienced academic with over 15 years of teaching experience in tourism, hospitality and events management, and has taught both in the UK and in Asia. He has a PhD in Hospitality and Tourism Management from the University of Surrey along with a PGCE in Education from the University of Lancaster. He has just joined BUV from Swansea University in the UK, where he was Programme Director of International Tourism Management at Swansea University, and prior to that he was Director of Tourism Management at the University of Surrey’s overseas campus in China, Surrey International Institute (SII-DUFE).

Dr. Kimber’s research interests revolve around the rise of Asian backpacker tourism, smart tourism and the leisure uses of autonomous vehicles. Simon has published his research in academic journals and book chapter and presented at conferences. He has a number of research collaborations with academics from the UK and China.

Originally from Germany, Maren holds an undergraduate degree in International Hospitality Management from Stenden University in the Netherlands and an MSc in Tourism and Events from the University of Sunderland in the UK. Maren gained her PhD from Edinburgh Napier University in the UK in 2016 with a thesis exploring commemorative narratives of the anniversary events of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Since then, she has taught on tourism, hospitality and events management courses in the UK and Vietnam and has held programme leadership roles at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Maren is also a Fellow of Advance HE. Her research interests include commemoration, memory studies, semiotics, tourism education and sustainable tourism. Maren has published her research in academic journals and book chapters and presented at international conferences.

Dr. Jyotsna Ghildiyal Bijalwan is an academic, an author and researcher with a diverse international work experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students. She holds Graduation and Master degrees in Commerce from University of Mumbai, India. She is also a Master of Business Administration (Finance) and MPhil. She got her doctoral degree in Management from Uttarakhand Technical University, India.

Dr. Jyotsna has 15 years of teaching experience at various reputable Universities in India and overseas. She has published over 15 research papers in various reputable national and international journals and conferences.  She is also an author of 3 books. She participated in a number of minor and major national and international research projects. She has been on the advisory board of conferences and journals. She is a motivational speaker, educator and trainer for businesses and academia.  She has supervised more than 120 graduation essays and over 35 Master Dissertations and she is currently supervising several PhD Students.

Dr. Paul DJ Moody’s qualifications include: PhD (Royal College of Art, 2023) Acts of Resistance by documentary practice in Visual Communication; Diploma in Professional Film and Video Production (North East Media Training Centre, 1989) and Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies (University of London, Goldsmiths’). In 1989 he entered international film, television and media industry as freelancer and independent filmmaker, working on award-winning international feature films, TV dramas, documentaries, shorts, arts, commercial and promotional projects. Between 1996-99 he furthered significant international careers when successfully managing the Northern Production Fund. Since 2004 he has worked in Higher Education (Goldsmiths’, NFTS, NTU/ADM, RCA) while continuing filmmaking – currently directing a documentary in London and Cape Town about famed South African Jazz band the ‘The Blue Notes’.

• Secured 6m pounds sterling for the NFTS from Skillset, Media Programme of the European Union, and the European Social Fund for new core film-school programmes, diversity outreach courses, and international post-graduate bridges to industry project Passion to Market.
• Secured $180,000 Sing dollars from the Singapore Media Development Agency for NTU/ADM film and animation students’ graduation projects.
• Managed and part-raised 480,000 pounds sterling for the Northern Production Fund, from the European Regional Development Fund, the British Film Institute, the Arts Council of Great Britain the Motion Picture Association of America and European Social Fund. Wrote business plan that secured an additional decade of financing for the Northern Production Fund.

Shashi, born and raised in Nepal, completed a Bachelor’s degree (BA) in Economics and Mathematics and a Master’s degree (MA) in Economics from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. He started his career in higher education as a Lecturer in Economics at the School of Business, Pokhara University, Nepal, where he worked for two years before moving to Nepal Rastra Bank (the central bank of Nepal) as an Assistant Director. He worked in the central bank for five years and resigned in 2014 as the Deputy Director of the Research Department.

Shashi completed his PhD in International Economics from Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (PGCLTHE) from University of London, UK. He also achieved the status of University of London Worldwide Recognised Tutor and a Senior Fellow at the Advanced HE, UK (SFHEA).

He has been working with BUV since September 2014 and teaching courses in the field of Economics, Banking and Finance. He is an active researcher and owns credits for 19 research articles published in reputable journals from Nepal, Vietnam, India and the UK.

Raised and educated in India, Viju Prakash completed a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Anna University. Following graduation, in 2005, he completed a Master of Computer Science and Engineering from Anna University. He later completed his PhD titled, “A Power Aware Routing Protocol in Wireless Sensor Networks” in Computer Science and Engineering.

Viju was employed as Lecturer from 2007 to 2010 and Assistant Professor from 2010 to 2017 in India. He then worked as an Assistant Professor for 4 years in Ethiopia and Iraq leading as a Member of the Post Graduate Governing Council and Research head.

In addition, since April 2022, Viju passionately continues to work as a Senior Lecturer at British University Vietnam to inspire and motivate his students toward innovation that is close to the current trend.

Throughout his international career, Dr. Al-Dulaimi held different roles: teacher, lead teacher, head of department, lead instructor, research team leader, and Quality & Project manager. Using his solid academic foundations and extensive professional experience, he has inspired and guided many students toward significant professional achievements, providing them with comprehensive coaching and guidance to win many medals in academic competitions worldwide. In collaboration with a prominent Canadian POS systems company, he developed a POS software that stands as a pioneering solution, capable of resolving many challenges retail businesses encounter, marking a significant advancement in the industry.

Before joining BUV, Dr. Pham Hai Chung was a researcher at Harvard Kennedy School in the U.S. She earned her Ph.D. in Media and Communication from Bournemouth University, England, and holds an M.A. in International Journalism from Hong Kong Baptist University. Chung’s Ph.D research focuses on the evolving narratives of Vietnam, examining its war-torn past and the dynamic brand and media consumption of the post-1975 generation.

With over 16 years of experience in academia and industry, she has taught at undergraduate and postgraduate level for international programs offered by the Victoria University of Wellington and Nantes University.

Dr. Chung has contributed to publications like the Financial Times, VnExpress and various peer-reviewed journals in Europe.

After graduating from the University of London (Imperial College), Andrew completed a post-doctoral fellowship sponsored by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, thereafter serving as an academic – in a variety of universities in Australia, Singapore, Japan and Malaysia; where Andrew supervised post graduate students, established collaborations with industry, authored textbooks and edited journal publications; and also served in industries, as Research Development Manager in Australia; and Training Consultant to large petroleum company in Middle East – initiated participation in WorldSkills competitions, successful registrations of patents and investment in local community development.

Andrew is the co-founder of the Journey Towards Hope (JoTHe) Projects since 2002. The projects which aim to promote peace and wellbeing by engaging, educating and empowering participants through creative arts and culture; have traversed through 23 nations Australia, Malaysia, UK, USA, Cambodia, Japan for example JoTHe projects have received the National Award for Crime and Violence Prevention (Australia) at the Australian Parliament; Western Australian Multicultural Community Services Award 2008; and global commendations from International Women Judges Association; United Nations Commissions on Status of Women; Vishtar Academy Bangalore India; Another Development Cooperation Sweden.

Raised and educated in Australia, Mark completed a bachelor’s degree in economics as a mature student at Adelaide University. Following graduation in 1983, Mark commenced employment as an Accountant for a subsidiary of BHP, in Sydney. Many positions followed working in government and banking until the year 2000 when he establishes a successful accounting business. With 4 partners Mark sold his interest and moved to France, in semi-retirement to complete his master’s degree in international relations. However, following a call from RMIT Vietnam Mark started as lecturer in accounting but soon after became Head of Department for Accounting, Economics, Finance and Marketing and where he completed his doctorate in business in 2016. Mark returned to Australia to take up the Academic Director of Accounting position for Kaplan Business School. Australia. Mark is an avid mountain walker and martial artist in Taekwondo.

Adrian joined BUV Hanoi in 2020, having previously taught at RMIT Vietnam for more than 10 years. Before teaching, he worked as a Training Manager in KPMG Malaysia, an international accounting firm headquartered in the Netherlands. Adrian also worked as a stock analyst and a real estate negotiator in Kuala Lumpur before finding his calling in teaching and training. Adrian is passionate about education and about using experiential activities to facilitate learning. This comes from his extensive background in adult learning. He makes sure that his students not only learn but they also have fun whilst learning.

Currently, Adrian teaches marketing and management subjects across a number of undergraduate programmes at BUV, including the Bachelor of Business and the Bachelor of Marketing. After receiving his Doctoral degree from Southern Cross University, in 2016, Adrian started to engage in research more actively. Currently, his research interests include the business field of leadership, culture, communication, and CSR.

Coming from the serene coastal town of Port Dickson, Malaysia. Dr. Ash embarked on an academic journey that culminated in remarkable achievements. She secured a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master of Science in International Marketing Management from the Robert Gordon University (RGU), UK. Her thirst for knowledge led her to Postgraduate Studies in Management in 1999, further enriching her expertise.

Dr. Ash’s career voyages spanned diverse industries. She ventured into the oil and gas realm, making her mark at Halliburton in Aberdeen, UK, and later explored the dynamic retail sector. Returning to her homeland in 2001, she embraced higher education before an impactful journey in the Middle East. Contributing significantly to academic institutions in Jeddah and Dhahran, she left an indelible legacy. In 2020, the culmination of her academic pursuits arrived with the completion of her Ph.D. Her research interests are mainly in digital marketing, loyalty and customer experience.

Notably, Dr. Ash undertook a pivotal role in a Malaysian higher education institution, serving as Senior Lecturer and Head of Programme. Beyond academia, her interests encompass travel, gardening, and martial arts. In essence, Dr Ash’s enthusiasm for teaching and research is rooted in her dedication to nurturing the untapped potential of young minds.

Dr Dong Manh Cuong is a lecturer at the School of Business, British University Vietnam (BUV). He received his Ph.D. in Economics in 2019 from Feng Chia University, Taiwan, with a remarkable doctoral thesis titled “Essays of structural changes and quantile regression on financial data.” Over the recent years, he has taught at several higher education institutions in Vietnam, Taiwan, and South Korea as a full-time and visiting lecturer for many international programs offered by RMIT, San José State University, Troy University, University of St. Francis, etc.

As a dedicated researcher, Dr. Cuong’s research is situated in the field of applied econometrics in finance and economics. Bilal Aslam is an accomplished academic with a PhD in Finance from Curtin University. His doctoral research, titled “Machine Learning for Capital Market Research and Portfolio Optimization,” delved into the application of advanced computational techniques to equity portfolio construction and decision-making. Prior to his PhD, Bilal completed an MPhil in Economics and Finance at Curtin University, focusing on “Weak Euler Scheme for Stochastic Differential Equations with Applications in Finance.” His academic journey began with an MSc in Financial Mathematics (with distinction) from the University of Sussex, providing a strong foundation in mathematical finance.

Bilal has a strong multidisciplinary background in finance, mathematics and computing, and he teaches courses in quantitative and computational finance. His research interests encompass derivatives, portfolio management, and applications of machine learning in finance.

Chris, originally from the UK, has built a distinguished career abroad, specializing in economics, international political economy, and education. He holds a Ph.D. focused on the Asian Currency Crisis, along with a Master’s in International Political Economy, a PGCE in Tertiary Education (Economics), and a B.A. (Hons.) in Politics and Economics.

With extensive experience in academic and leadership roles, Chris spent five years as a lecturer at RMIT University in Vietnam. His work has also taken him to Thailand, Egypt, Greece, Belgium and China, where he has engaged in cultural diplomacy and educational management for the British Council. Previously, he worked for the UK’s Foreign & Commonwealth Office as a research analyst. Hailing from Kerala, South India, Aiwa completed her Bachelor’s degree in Travel and Tourism from Pazhassiraja College, Calicut University, Kerala in 2014. Following graduation, she moved to Malaysia to pursue her MSc. in Tourism by research from Taylor’s University (2014-2017) , and continued there until the completion of her Doctoral studies in 2021. During her period at Taylor’s, she engaged with various teaching, research, as well as departmental activities under the Faculty of Social Sciences and Leisure Management.  Thereafter, she worked as an Invited Faculty and Visiting Resource Person at State and Central Universities in India.

Since her Master’s, she established her expertise in qualitative research and elevated her interpretive skills. Aiwa’s research interests include exploring niche areas in tourism, tourists’ behaviour, perceptions, and preferences. Besides that, she is an independent researcher, speaker, and thinker who works towards inculcating ethical thoughts and qualitative behaviour in daily life.

Raised in a small town in Hanoi, Mai moved to live and study in the United Kingdom from 2011. Mai completed her Msci degree in Mathematics and Statistical Science at the University College London (UCL) in 2017. She then received the UCL’s Research Excellence Scholarship to undertake doctoral research at UCL. In 2022, she was awarded the degree of Doctorate of Philosophy with the thesis titled, “Inference on Riemannian Manifolds: Regression and Stochastic Differential Equations”.  Towards the end of her PhD, she moved to the department of Applied Health Research at UCL to work in the field of Early Cancer Detection.

Mai is interested in Riemannian geometry and stochastic processes. Past work is on inference for regression on Lie groups and stochastic differential equations (SDEs) on manifolds and their applications. Mai is also interested in statistical models and simulation methodologies applied in Cancer Early Detection Research, particularly multi-state models.

Transitioning to academia in 2004, he spent seven years as an Assistant Instructor at Saint Paul University Iloilo, nurturing a passion for teaching and mentorship. From 2012 to 2024, he served as an Associate Professor at Central Philippine University, delving into research as the Department Head of the College of Computer Studies. Vinh graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Vietnam National University – Hanoi in 2009. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from Université de Lorraine in 2018, completing his thesis under the supervision of Prof. François Charoy and Dr. Claudia Ignat at Inria Nancy Grand-Est, France. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Hanoi Law University (2013) and a Master’s degree in Financial Engineering from WorldQuant University (2021).

Vinh is actively involved in academic research, with over 50 papers indexed in Scopus, most of which he authored as the first author. As of August 2024, he has an h-index of 15 and more than 650 citations.

In addition to his academic achievements, Vinh has extensive experience in the software industry. He has served as a Project Manager at FPT Software, Head of Data Science at Be Group, Head of Data at DatViet VAC, and Chief Data Officer at several startups. Raised and educated in the UK, in 1995, Richard completed a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from De Montfort University. In 1999, he graduated with a Master of Art in Visual Communication from The Birmingham Institute of Art & Design. After graduation, Richard worked in various freelance design roles across the Midlands and North-East England.

His academic career began in 2003, working firstly for Birmingham Metropolitan College as a Programme Leader (Graphic Design) and moving to Curriculum Director (Visual Art) in 2007.

Born in Canada, raised and educated in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), Mark completed a B.Sc. (Econ) at the University of Buckingham, England. Following graduation in 1984, he worked with an Economics Consultancy for a year before returning to Buckingham as a tutor. While completing his Master’s degree, he worked his way up to Lecturer before leaving academia and training with KPMG as a Chartered Accountant.

In 1994, Mark emigrated to Singapore and began teaching at the University of London, which he continued for over 20 years, before joining BUV in 2015.

Mark has also taught short-term assignments for the University of London in Bermuda, India, Indonesia, Pakistan and Zimbabwe.

Joey is from Malaysia, and she has been teaching at international universities/colleges for more than 15 years. Before joining the education industry, she had worked in banking and financial services in Malaysia.

Joey came to Vietnam in 2007 and has served in BUV since 2016, leading the Accounting and Finance (AF) programme. In addition, she also teaches accounting and finance subjects for the University of London international programmes at BUV. For more than 20 years, he held senior HR-managerial positions while at the same time working as a business consultant and trainer. Sven is a well-rounded creative director & visual artist, with a background in visual communication and 20+ years of industry experience. He was running a design & advertising agency and established a gallery for contemporary photography in the art capital Berlin.

Bao Long is a lecturer, researcher, entrepreneur and interaction design expert specializing in game design, interaction design, user experience and psychology. He is also interested in entrepreneurship and startups, applying human-centered design to developing products to solve modern social life problems.

Outside of teaching, he also is co-founder of LacBird Co. – a game company in Vietnam and Australia, taking responsibility for coaching and mentoring game studios. Olivier de Chauliac is a French professional working in the hospitality, tourism and service industry for several years. Coming from a family anchored deep into the hospitality industry with a 3-stars Camping, a 200ha of Vineyard in the South of France and a hunting lodge, Olivier always had a passion for this industry and particularly for the Food & Beverage one.

After successfully spending 1 year in England as an assistant Event Manager, he went to undertake his study in Switzerland where he graduated at 24 years old with a Bachelor of Arts in Hospitality, Tourism and Event Management. After reaching Viet Nam in 2011 Olivier has worked for several entities around Sai Gon mainly as Food & Beverage Manager. His industry’s experience includes the opening of level 50, 51 & 52 of the Bitexco Tower, the pre-opening of the Reverie Hotel while being group assistant FB Manager of WMC and MGM Grand Ho Tram as well as.

Olivier then went to pass on his Culinary Arts Diploma in Philippines before joining back Viet Nam where he worked as a consultant for the “Hoa Tuk” Group as well as being a hospitality lecturer at the same time. He successfully graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2020 with a Master of Science in Hospitality Management and currently working on completing his Phd.

Olivier is driven by the hospitality industry and has several passions on the side from being an adrenaline junky, many sports and a passion for Formula 1 and Video Gaming as well as every nerdy subjects he could find.

Born in Scotland, Fraser completed a Software Engineering degree (Bachelor of Engineering with Honours) from Edinburgh Napier University in 2013. With a primary focus on machine learning and genetic algorithms.

After graduating, Fraser worked as a software developer in the oil and gas industry and as a cloud-based consultant developing and customizing customer relationship management software.

In 2016 Fraser moved to Vietnam and worked for the British Embassy, managing their IT infrastructure, before moving to a cyber-security related role. In 2020, Fraser returned to academia, completing a Master of Software Engineering focusing on “progressive web” applications.

Fraser is currently working on various research projects relating to how we teach computer science and computational thinking.

Raised and educated in Australia, Sasha spent several years in the Queensland Police Service as a Detective before graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education from Griffith University and Bond University in 2005. Sasha then completed a Masters of Educational Practice at Bond University in 2007 and began lecturing at Bond University in Communications, Child Development, crime and media and Philosophy in 2008. In 2019, Sasha commenced a PhD in psychology, crime and communications. In 2022, Sasha commenced a post graduate degree in Psychology. Both her PhD and Psychology are due for completion in 2024.

Hailing from India, he completed his Masters in Multimedia Technology at Anna University in 2010. Presently, he is actively immersed in his PhD pursuit at Vellore Institute of Technology, India, focusing on Game-based Learning since 2019. Throughout his professional journey, he has ardently contributed to various field, excelling in Game design, Game development, 3D Modeling & Texturing, 3D Animation, 2D Content Creation, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, User Interface design, and Visual Effects.
